Welcome to
the Newfields Police Department website. Our goal as a department is to
prevent crime, preserve order, and to protect the rights, lives and
property of all people. The purpose of this website is to provide
easily accessible information to the members of our community and
beyond. We welcome your interest and encourage you to visit as new
information is added on a regular basis. Our website will
hopefully serve as a tool for a variety of information about how our
department works, its outstanding personnel, and a number of our ongoing
community oriented programs. Hopefully you find this information
helpful in getting to know us better. As always, we invite your
comments, and look forward to working with you for all our community
needs.
Newfields Police Department is a
full-time New Hampshire Level I Accredited Agency consisting of 4
full-time police officers. We serve a community of approximately 1,551
residents and cover an area of approximately 6.6 square miles. Located
along the west bank of the Squamscott River, Newfields is bordered by
Newmarket to the north, Exeter to the south, Stratham to the east
(separated by the Squamscott), and Epping to the west. Newfields is
accessible principally via Route 85, which runs northeast between Routes
101 and 108, and via route 87 which runs east from Route 125. The town
is 31 miles from Manchester, 12 miles from Portsmouth, and 11 miles from
Hampton. The village of Newfields includes a historic country
store, a town hall, a public library, two churches and a post office,
all within close proximity along Main Street. The elementary school and
fire department are nearby on Piscassic Road, on the east side of the
village. There are several historic cemeteries, a war memorial, a public
boat launch, and a number of hiking/biking trails.
ANNUAL REPORT 2010
This
year we continued to actively look and apply for Federal grants to bring
money back to your Town for enforcement. We were very fortunate
this year and were able to secure a large grant to monitor, educate and
apprehend those who sell alcohol to minors. We regionalized our
efforts by combining forces with Newmarket and Epping Police Departments
to decrease the sale of alcohol in all three communities. We have
found working together we had a greater impact on the sale of alcohol to
minors in the tri-town area.
The
department logged in an immeasurable amount of hours in community
service through a variety of events. Those programs include
D.A.R.E. Program, food baskets for the needy, and toys/clothing for
children over the holidays. We also had our 5th annual roadside
trash clean up on many of the streets in town in an attempt to maintain
its beauty. I would like to thank the Community Church, the
Christian Faith Church and the many private citizens for their role in
the annual food basket and Christmas toy/clothes drive. I would
especially like to thank Lt. Anne Gould, Administrative Assistant
Maureen Smith, Officer Lisa Soiett and Clara Camuso-Reed for cooking the
hot meals, which were delivered during the holidays. I truly
appreciate all those who helped. Your thoughtfulness and hard work
is noticed by many.
The
department continues to offer the Helpful Hands Program for any resident
who feels they could utilize extra assistance during a declared
emergency event. Currently we have over twenty residents who
participate in the program. If you are interested in the program
you can find more information on the department website.
This year a
Police Building Committee was formed to start looking into building a
new, state of the art facility which would fit the needs of the
residents and police staff. The Committee was represented by a
large cross section of residents and I appreciate all of their hard
work. I look forward to working with all of you again during 2011.
I have again
included an analysis of the types of crimes, reports and arrests we deal
with on a yearly basis. This year that analysis will only be found
on our website in an attempt to going green. If you have any
questions or concerns about the analysis please feel free to stop by or
call.
Many thanks
go to the employees of the police department for all of their hard work
and dedication to the department and to the Town. Without your
commitment and loyalty we would not have accomplished so much.
