Newfields Resident,
So far this year, the Town of Newfields has experienced some extreme weather
conditions. Beginning with the deep freeze in February with the severe power
outages and frozen pipes in many homes, to the extraordinary amount of rain in
May and June which flooded roadways and many basements.
After dealing with these weather related ordeals, the Newfields Police, Fire and
Emergency Management Departments have been working together closely to create a
response plan to assist residents of Newfields should our town suffer similar or
more severe situations in the future. We have developed a new program called
“Helpful Hands”. This program offers interested community residents a little
extra attention during severe conditions. As a member of “Helpful Hands”,
someone from the Police and/or fire Department will check on you during a
town-wide critical incident. A member of the Police Department will make a daily
phone call to check on your well-being and to inquire if there are any issues
that you may need assistance with. If we are unable to make phone contact by a
certain hour, a member of the Police or Fire Department will drive to your
residence to check on your welfare and ensure that you are not in need of any
type of assistance.
Reasons for becoming a member of “Helpful Hands” can vary from:
- being elderly
- an individual with special needs or a disability
- a single parent or someone whose partner is routinely away
- someone who is unsure how to deal with a critical incident
If you are a resident of the Town of Newfields and would like to participate in
this program, please complete the enclosed membership form and return it to:

Hands”, please contact the Newfields Police Department at 772-9010.
All the members of the Newfields Police, Fire and Emergency Management
Departments look forward to the community’s participation in this new program.
